I hope last week’s entry sparked some introspection in your day to day life.
I also struggle to be consistent everyday with my meditation practice, but I try to engage in it at least five times a week. As I become more self-aware, I start noticing small changes in my thought process and attitude towards how I deal with my challenges. It helps me be in gratitude and privileged to be able to be on this journey of life as I continue to figure out my way in this world.
This week I want to talk about continuity. I think one of the biggest challenges that I face in my creative practice is consistency and continuity in the work. Part of it can be blamed on an over-commitment to other things besides creation, but I never want to use the lack of time as a reason to say why I never got something done. I often tried to act by telling myself if I wanted to, I would. However I don't feel the same way about my creative practice. There's a reason why creation feels so special and sacred every time I decide to act on it. I feel humbled and grateful I see a product in my hands and I'm given the opportunity to wear something I created. The ones that I feel are good enough, I take an extra step to share with the rest of the world. We must give ourselves time to reflect on that. We tend to lose sight of what it truly means to create internally.
I'm not bound by a timeline for commercial performance, it is a privilege to be able to create and it is also a privilege to be able to create when I want to on my own terms. We need to lean on the idea of creating on our own time a bit more. I believe it's nearly impossible to stay course authentically on a traditional fashion calendar that the industry has built. We see so many designers and brands lack originality and creativity because of the level of output we expect for commercial success. Continuity in our creativity can still exist as long as we are still relying on our mindfulness practice. Continuity is not about frequency, it's about returning with intention, so please stay engaged and positive throughout the journey.
